'With Jesus, we learn as a joyful family and flourish to be the best that we can be'
As part of our Earthlings topic, we have been focusing on creating textured, abstract art. We have experimented with colour to create abstract art using different media. Our next step was to create a textured piece using ModRoc, we looked at building layers to create texture and got very messy! Once they are dry, we will be using colour to bring them to life. Good job, Year 6!
Our children are enjoying using White Rose Maths in class and we are pleased to tell you that an app has been released which comes highly recommended.
It consists of one minute challenges and games which can be used to support your child's maths development.

WATER SAFETY
Following the tragic news earlier in the week we have been sent a link to access an educational Winter Safety Activity Booklet and Colouring In sheet to help start conversations between adults and children/young people about water safety in winter
Please see the link below to access the resources around water safety in winter:
As part of our RE topic about Belonging, we were lucky enough to welcome Fr David Noblett from HMPPS Wymott to talk to us about his vocation. It was really interesting to hear why he became a priest, the unusual aspects of his job and how he remains committed even on tough days. Thank you so much, Fr David!
National Poetry Day 2022
The theme for this year's national poetry day is "Our Environment". We are lucky enough to have wonderful school grounds, so we made time on Thursday to read the poem "Custodians" by Brian Moses. We then went for an adventure around our forest school area to look closely at our environment and write some poems about being "Custodians".
We focussed on including personification, repetition and alliteration to write our poems. The children produced fantastic work and we will be adding these poems to the library displays so that the whole school can enjoy them!
White Rose Maths
This year, we have started a new maths scheme across the school. White Rose Maths focusses on teaching mastery in maths. The children are really enjoying the new challenges and showing great progress in their learning. Each lessons offers the opportunity to use physical resources to embed a deep understanding of number. Keep up the good work, superstars!
Musical masters in the making!
28.9.22
Woodcock class are loving this term's music topic. It is called "HAPPY" and we have been learning to sing and play Happy by Pharrell on the Glockenspiels. Yesterday was our first try at reading the music and playing along. The children did a really good job! We have been listening to and appraising other songs with the theme happy and we have also been learning about tempo, pitch and how to warm up our vocal chords!
Try this tongue twister to warm up your vocal chords:
Penguins, porcupines, pandas and panthas
How fast can you say it? How many times can you say it without making a mistake?
Here is an update on our fabulous Roald Dahl display in the library!
We also wanted to show you our amazing reading area. We have books displayed around our classroom that link to our topics, including Maths and RE. Also, we have a weekly child-friendly newspaper called "The week" that keeps us up to date on the news and helps us get a better understanding of non-fiction writing. Even our PE coach, Marcus, wanted to try it out!
Online safety talk - 21st September 2022
Today, we had a special guest in school to talk to us all about online safety. It was really useful to talk open and honestly about the challenges faced online. We discussed the appropriate age recommendations for online apps and websites - which shocked some us and was really useful to know!
Remember to always talk to an adult if anything you see or hear online bothers or upsets you. This is part of our BE SAFE school charter. The Computing page on the school website has more information about online safety and you can also find activities on purple mash.
Meet the teacher - Wednesday 21st September 3:30pm
I am looking forward to meeting you all on Wednesday 21st September from 3:30pm. This is an after school drop-in session until 5:30pm so please feel free to come at a time that suits you. Children are welcome to come with their parents and show them around our lovely classroom. I will be there to answer any questions you may have about our curriculum, homework or plans for the year. If you cannot attend but have questions for me, please do not hesitate to contact me via the school office and I will happily contact you to answer any questions you may have.
We have been lucky enough to take part in a Yoga and mindfulness day across school in partnership with The Yogi Group. Along with each class in school, we enjoyed a session of Yoga and learnt some yoga skills as well as talking about how we can use breathing techniques to manage stress or worry. Well done everyone!
This week celebrates national Roald Dahl day. We chose The BFG as our theme for the day. We have all written about our very own "Golden Phizzwizard" dreams and designed the jars for them to live in! We will update you with pictures of our creations when the new library display is completed.
Throughout the day, children also had the opportunity to win "Golden Tickets" for showing our school values: being a learner, being safe and being respectful. Well done to all our winners in Woodcock class.
