'With Jesus, we learn as a joyful family and flourish to be the best that we can be'
In English, we have been learning all about folktales and have been studying 'The Old Woman who lived in a vinegar bottle' alongside other folktales such as Rumpelstiltskin. We sequenced the events of a folktale and talked about the beginning, middle and end. Our focus during this unit is expanded noun phrases and the use of inverted commas for direct speech.
Our next unit was 'Biographies'. We studied lots of famous people like David Attenborough, Rosa Parks and Queen Elizabeth II. We then looked at some local famous people and researched Nick Park. The children loved using the ipads to research his life and were great at putting events in chronological order. They were mainly interested in Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run!
Shape Poems
We have been learning about shape poems and discussing how the language and shape changes the way we feel about the poem. We used expression and intonation to read these poems aloud and a class and during paired reading. We had a go at creating our own shape poems linked to our History learning all about World War II.
We enjoyed performing our poems to the class and adding suspense and emotion through the language used.
