Main Activity

Friday 22nd January

L.O: To Write an explorer story.

Today, you are going to do your 'hot write', like we do in class. This is where we finish off the topic by doing a piece of writing on our own to show what we have learnt.

You are going to put together the whole of your explorer story and write it from start to finish. Remember -Think, say, write and check your sentences. Punctuation( including capitals for names), adjectives, conjunctions, interesting words, adverbs, different sentence starters. Can you use a similie and an exclamation mark? Have you used paragraphs?

Re-read your story when you have finished to check it makes sense and to check for mistakes.

(Parents/carers- it is important that children learn to build up stamina to write at length. It is one of the objectives in writing for Y2 children.)

Maths

Mental maths starter:

Play the hundred hunt game. Find 10 more/less. Challenge- find 9 more/less or 11 more/less

Ignore the worksheet on the Oak Academy (unless you want to do that one as well) and complete the one below instead. Remember to use a ruler when drawing lines of symmetry!

Play the symmetry matching game. The pattern one is the hardest.

L.O: To understand that different books are used in Mass

Look at the pictures attached and talk to your grown up about them. There are lots of different books used during Mass and they are used for different reasons. For example hymn books, missal, lectionary, the Book of the Gospels, Mass books with the readings ( so everyone can follow and join in with mass) , children’s Mass books, prayer books.

Teaching points

  • Altar Missal: the book that contains the prayers the priest uses during Mass.
  • Lectionary: the book containing a collection of scripture readings.
  • Book of the Gospels: the Gospel stories that are used for the celebration of Mass and Sacraments.
  • Lectern/Ambo: the stand from which the Word of God is proclaimed.

Key questions (Only answer these questions verbally- just tell them to your grown up.)

  1. Which books are used on the Lectern/Ambo and how?
  2. Which books are used by the parish community and how?
  3. Who would read from the Book of the Gospels and why?

In your book draw a picture of the parish community using some of these books. Maybe they are singing and using the hymn books, or following Mass in their Mass books etc. Write a sentence underneath to explain which books they are using and what they are used for.
