'With Jesus, we learn as a joyful family and flourish to be the best that we can be'

Monday 11th January

Guided Reading

For Guided Reading I have set up a new system for us. Go onto the website getepic.com and this is where you will be doing your Guided Reading from now, each day.

Go onto the website and click log in. Then click onto 'Students and Educators' then type in the class code. Our class code is law7246. Then click onto your name and it should come up with the book I have assigned for you. For some groups you may have a quiz to do at the end.

Try to read for at least 10 minutes each day. From get epic I can see how many minutes of reading you are doing each day and it also tells me how many minutes you have spent on each page so don't be flicking through too quickly! Also, if there is a word that you don't understand, don't know the meaning of or don't know how to pronounce, if you click on the word, a little box will come up telling you all of this information!

For parents: children must log onto getepic during school times only as this is the only time it will be free of charge so please try to do it at some point during the day.

Your books for this week are:

Main Task:

Today I have put up a video on Oak National academy. Follow the link and complete the lesson. You are going to create some ideas to write your own stories. You can base this on Jack and the Beanstalk. You can also go back to last week's lesson and watch the Jack and the Beanstalk video to look at what problems Jack faced. This might help you come up with your own ideas.

EXT:

Create a list of adjectives that you could use in your story. Remember, an adjective is a describing word!

Phonics:

Go onto phonics play and look at phase 5. Play flashcards speed trial and then you can choose some other games.

LO: To compare lengths and heights of objects

Mental Maths Starter:

Recall addition and subtraction facts for each number up to 10 (number bonds).

Today we are looking at comparing length and height. If you have a ruler at home it would be a good idea to have a look at this whilst you are working. I have put up an Oak National Academy lesson for you.

EXT: If you have a ruler, can you measure a line that is 5cm long?

RE

LO: To recognise special jobs in the community

The parish church is where the parish family gathers. Just like at home or in school everyone has their part to play in the parish family.

Talk to an adult about the special people in church. For example, Father Mark. Can you write 2/3 sentences to explain Father Mark's job and why it is so special. Think about what Father Mark does in the church, who he helps and how.

EXT: Can you draw a picture of Father Mark and write some adjectives around the picture to describe why Father Mark is so special. For example, caring, kind.
