'With Jesus, we learn as a joyful family and flourish to be the best that we can be'
A warm welcome to all members of Roe Class!
I hope that you have all had a lovely summer. Just a quick note to let you know some of the things that are happening in the autumn term. On Wednesdays, beginning the 11th of September, swimming will start at Bamber Bridge Leisure Centre. This will continue for all Year 4 children until Easter. After Easter, those children who have not received their 25m certificate in breaststroke, front crawl and backstroke will continue, whilst those children who have, will remain in school for PE. This Thursday, 5th September, the swimming instructor will be coming into school to explain to the children what they need to bring each week.
Your child will be bringing home their reading diaries this week. Your child's day for returning their books to school will be labelled on the front of their homework packet. We will send home 2 books per week. Please can diaries be signed and dated for each read. A longer book may take several reads to complete. Each read counts towards the 150 reading challenge. Also, other books that may be read at home can be added to the diary and the reads counted. We have a class reading display in our class and in the school library and each child will move a butterfly as they reach reading milestones.
The homework given each week will consist of: 15 spellings, times tables and reading. In addition, sometimes topic related homework may be given. This term our Geography topic is 'Rubbish and Recycling'. Spelling and times tables tests will be given on Fridays. The spellings given may consist of words from the statutory year 3/4 spelling list, spelling patterns from the No Nonsense Spelling scheme that we follow in school and words that are commonly spelt incorrectly by children in class.
In Year 4, there is a statutory multiplication test in the spring/summer term. The children have 6 seconds to read and type into an Ipad the answers to 25 times tables questions, selected from 1x to 12x tables. To assist with learning these, your child can use their TTRockstars password at home to get faster at learning their tables in a fun way.
Similar to last year, we are fortunate that ukulele lessons will take place for Year 4 children throughout the year. Miss Galea will be coming in to school to teach Roe Class every Thursday.
