Bartholomew Roe was born in 1583 in Suffolk, England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth. Following a visit to the Abbey of St Alban he became a Benedictine monk. He is one of the "Forty Martyrs of England and Wales" and died for his Catholic beliefs in Westminster in 1642.
