Father John Southworth came from a Lancashire family who lived at Samlesbury Hall.

His feast day is 27 June.

Welcome back to the new academic year!

I hope you have all had a wonderful summer holiday.  This is just a quick note to let you know some of the things that are happening in the autumn term.

Our PE days are on a Tuesday and a Friday. Please ensure full PE Kits are in school on these days.

Your child will be bringing home their reading diaries this week. Reading books will be changed once a week and you will have a label on the front of your child’s reading record, displaying what day that will be. We will send home 2 books per week. Please can diaries be signed and dated for each read. A longer book may take several reads to complete. Each read counts towards the 150-reading challenge. Also, other books that may be read at home can be added to the diary and the reads counted. Each child has a reading butterfly that they will move in our library as they reach each reading milestone.

The homework given each week will consist of: 15 spellings, times tables and reading. In addition, sometimes topic related homework may be given. Spellings given may consist of words from the statutory year 5/6 spelling list, spelling patterns from the No Nonsense Spelling scheme that we follow in school and words that are commonly spelt incorrectly by children in class.

Joining us in Southworth class this year is Mr Conway, our new teaching assistant. He is really looking forward to supporting the children’s learning and he brings his passion of coaching football and learning how to play the guitar to our team!

If you have any questions, please contact me at school.

Also, don’t forget to join our class dojo – a simple way to keep up to date with what is happening in class and monitor your child’s daily achievements!

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Tomsett
