'With Jesus, we learn as a joyful family and flourish to be the best that we can be'

Week Beginning 9.11.20

9.11.20

English: L.O. - To identify and predict events

Play the first 15 seconds of the Ostrich and Penguin film https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PDlm3lSP-Y. Name the animals and discuss what you know about them. Predict what you think will happen. Write a prediction after the sub-heading ‘Prediction’. Watch the rest - were you correct? Discuss the storyline and moral. Record details under the sub-headings 'Characters', 'Events', 'Setting' and 'Moral'.

Maths: L.O. - Add numbers using the column method with Base 10 jottings

Complete addition calculations (no regrouping today), setting out as follows:

35 + 12 = 47

T          U

///         .....

/           ..

_________

////       .......

Try:

26 + 11 =

47 + 21 =

55 + 32 =

73 + 26 =

Then move on to 3 digits (without regrouping):

123 + 32 =

147 + 21 =

256 + 121 =

358 + 131 =

RE: See plan below

10.11.20

Science: L.O. - To understand a balanced diet and design a balanced meal

View the PowerPoint below then design a main meal (containing food from the different groups) and a healthy dessert. Choose a drink too.

D.T.: L.O. - To design a pasta dish

Decide which ingredients to include in your pasta dish. Think back to our food tasting. List the ingredients, then draw and label your dish.

R.E. - See plan

Mental Maths - Practise counting in 4s forwards and backwards from different starting points. Practise doubling and halving 2 digit numbers.

Spelling - Look up the meaning of your spelling words for this week in a dictionary. Practise writing them in sentences.

11.11.20

Maths: L.O. - Add numbers using the column method with Base 10 jottings, involving regrouping

See Monday but today you'll need to regroup! E.g.  26 + 15 = 41

      T        U

     //     ......

+   /      .....

__________

///       .           (Remember to count the ten underneath from regrouping!)

__________

    /

Try the calculations below then add some of your own.

27 + 24 =       34 + 48 =       59 +  27 =       68 +  35 =

122 + 39 =      225 + 47 =     319 + 133 =     247 + 226 =

English: L.O. - To retell and discuss key events

Read the selection of fables below, taking note of punctuation. For each one, discuss and record the main events and the moral of the story. How are they similar? How are they different?

PSHE - 'This is Me!'

Draw a self portrait, then answer the following questions:

Who made you? Why? What makes you special or different from others? What do you like about your body?

12.11.20

English - L.O.: Write questions for a character and answer in role

Explain that we are going to explore characters from the fables using an interview technique. Focus on the Hare and Tortoise and play the clip of Kermit the Frog interviewing the Hare: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no1ilt3VjBY

Discuss what we learn about the character from this interview. Choose either the Hare or the Tortoise and write at least 5 questions for them. Answer in role.

Maths - Continue further examples from yesterday, focussing on 3 digit numbers. E.g. 268 + 235 =   349 + 247 =

418 + 366 =    789 + 214 =     When you are confident with these, practise our mental maths focus areas (2, 3, 4, 5, 10 x tables, doubles and halves of 2 digit numbers, quick recall of number bonds to 20 and 100, identifying HTU within 3 digit numbers). Choose some of our website games to practise these key skills. For example, 'Hit the Button'.

Spelling - List the suffixes we have been revising (-ful, -ing, -ed, -er, -ly, -ness, -less). Think of an example word for each suffix and write it in a sentence.

RE - Think back to all our work from this unit about promises. Before we plan our collective worship, discuss and record answers to the following:

  • The importance of making promises.
  • How some promises are more difficult to keep than others.
  • The link between the promises made and the consequences of actions following the promise.
