Ancient Egypt Workshop, by Ms Patel

The children had a visit from ‘Delve into History’ where they took part in a workshop learning all about Ancient Egypt through the use of artefacts. They learnt about the importance of mummification, the Ancient Egyptian hierarchy system and the jobs that people did within this, the clothes that people wore and how clothes showed status.

This half-term, the children have been exploring Ancient Egyptian art, applying the styles, patterns and techniques of Ancient Egyptian art to design and create their own scrolls.

The children created 3D models that have a purpose. They created these models out of waste or recycled items.
Forest School - Session 3, by Ms Patel

During our last Forest School session of this block, the children enjoyed consolidating all the skills they have learnt over the last few weeks. This included spltting and shaving wood with a sheath knife for the fire, lighting a fire with a flint and steel, using a bow saw to chop up a fallen tree and creating rafts using stick and string using our knot skills. We finished the session with some smores which have to be one of the best parts of Forest School. Thankyou to you all for your fantastic behaviour and enthusiasm!

Forest School - Session 2, by Ms Patel

Another wet and muddy week but a super Forest School session. This week we learnt how to safely use a bow saw to chop wood and we created wooden frames for our 'Hapa Zome' using a clove hitch and square lashing. We used our imaginations in the mud kitchen and to create models using the clay and natural materials. Some of the children started to create a den using the loose parts they found in the woodland area- I can't wait to see the final product!

In D.T this half term, the children have been designing and creating a book sleeve for a KS1 child.
Forest School - Session 1, by Ms Patel

The first session in Forest School for Rigby Class was extremely wet and muddy! Despite this, the children had a fantastic time in the woods. We used the hammer to practise some 'Hapa Zome' which is art using different leaves under a piece of cotton and bashed with the hammer to create a print, we created sculptures using clay and natural materials found in the environment, the children enjoyed climbing trees, accessing the mud kitchen and fully embraced the Forest School ethos. Looking forward to our next session!

Modelling digestion, by Ms Patel

Have you ever wondered what happens to food once it's chewed up in your mouth and how it gets digested?Well this week, Year 4 got their hands dirty and investigated those two questions using household items, such as: a masher, fork, scissors, plastic cups, bowl, tights, plastic bag, banana, biscuits, water, orange juice to model what happens at each stage of digestion.

Black History Month - Harriet Tubman, by Ms Patel

As part of Black History Month, the children learnt about Harriet Tubman and her role in the Underground Railroad Movement. The children also learnt how regular people helped the slaves travel from one place to another without getting caught and how they used secret codes to learn the route from one place to another. The children created a 'Freedom Quilt' based on the codes the slaves would have used to escape from their masters.
Designing and Making a Light Source, by Ms Patel

The children in Rigby have applied their learning from Science in their D.T lesson. They designed and created a light source at would be suitable for a child to use in Forest School. They then applied their learning from their Science lessons by creating a simple circuit that could go inside their light source. The children then took it into Forest School to observe and evaluate whether their prototype would be suitable to use.

The children in Rigby class have been studying the religion of Judaism. In particular, they have been looking at the Torah and the importance of it to the Jewish faith and why the Bar and Bat Mitzwah is important to young Jewish people.
