They have been exploring using their counting skills in a range of different contexts, including counting things that cannot be seen for example counting the number of beats on a drum or using counting to measure time when playing hide-and-seek. The children have been practising counting strategies that involve moving the objects. These included placing the objects in a line and counting along the line, or arranging them in rows and counting along each row. During our final 'Drawing Club' the children created their own version of somewhere for the spider to live instead of the web from the story. We had some fantastic ideas! One idea including having a Venus flytrap inside the spider's house.
Throughout the week the children have had the opportunity to explore other activities within the continuous provision. Activities included; creating their own spider webs using chalk to mark make and learning how to use a hole punch to create their own holes in card to make webs by threading string or wool for their own playdough spiders. The children have all had a go at following the step by step instructions of how to draw a spider paying close attention to detail. Just like the spider, we have had a very busy week in Beesley Class!
