We've had a fabulous day celebrating World Book Day in Marsden class! We did some quizzes relating to books and authors and we wrote our own character descriptions.

Today we had a special visitor in EYFS. It was PCSO Dave. PCSO Dave came into school to visit us and tell the children about his role in the community. The children listened really well and asked lots of questions.

In R.E, Rigby class have been studying and comparing the stories of 'Manna in the Desert' and 'The Feeding of the 5000'. They role-played the story to help them understand the emotions the people would have been feeling when the miracle was performed.

Beesley class have been creating a landscape collage in the style of Megan Coyle. The children worked together to draw a landscape setting from our text of the week The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Once they had drawn the landscape the children the children decided what colours to search for to use to create their collage. The children explored using PVA to join the materials onto the paper. 

Our visit from the Lancashire Library Service!, by Mrs Burgess

We had a special visitor into Beesley Class this morning~ Dawn and Georgie (the gorilla) from the Lancashire Library Service. Dawn brought some brand new books to read and share with us. The children listened really well and loved looking at the new stories. Dawn was very impressed with our listening skills and with us knowing the word ‘blurb’

This week in maths the children have been exploring 2D shapes. The children have explored shapes in many different ways including mark making the shapes outside, making pictures with shapes, fishing the shapes out of the water tray, making shapes using shape cutters in the playdough and handling shapes. The children have explored the shapes around us on a 2D shape hunt around our classroom and environment.

The children in Beesley Class have been using paint to record emotional responses to different pieces of music, creating exciting and expressive paintings.

The children enjoyed dressing up for Number Day 2025! The children took part in lots of activities and games throughout the day including skittles to explore the composition of five using the stem sentence we have been learning. Some members from the school council came to explain where the money that we have raised today goes and what the NSPCC is.

Today the children have been into Forest school to gather resources to create their own paintbrushes using objects such as feathers, grass and twigs. The children have also been mixing mud and water to make mud paint whilst exploring and talking about what happens to the consistency of the paint when they add more water or mud. Once the children had made their paint they used it to create muddy artwork and explored painting on paper, foil and the floor. We had lots of fun exploring how to make artwork using different materials!

Lunar New Year, by Mrs Burgess

EYFS have been learning all about the festival of Lunar New Year. We discovered that some of the children in Beesley class were born in the year of the pig (children born in 2019) and some were born in the year of the rat (children born in 2020) Although this year is the year of the snake! The children have been creating snakes by threading materials onto string and developed their cutting skills to cut along the line of a snake. The children then used their fingers to create repeating patterns.  The children have been learning how people get ready to celebrate Lunar New Year including cleaning and decorating their houses. The children have been making their own lantern to decorate the classroom. Outside the children have been mark marking using chalk to create their own snakes. 

In Drawing Club we read The Great Race and the children have been designing a new character to join the race. The children used the puppets to role-play and act out the story. 

Throughout the continuous provision the children have also been exploring mark making their age by copying their age and writing numerals 0-10 in Mandarin writing. 

Counting, cardinality and ordinality up to 5., by Mrs Burgess

The children in Reception have been exploring representing numerals 1-5 and how they show a 'staircase pattern' using lots of different resources. The children have been ordering numerals 1-5 and creating their own numberlines using the same colours as Numberblocks.

The children had the exciting opportunity to visit the book bus sent by the Lancashire School Library service and choose new books for their class.

Super Duper Penguin Slide, by Mrs Burgess

Today we read the story Super Duper Penguin Slide by Leonie Lord. The children explored working together to  create their own slides in the water area using different parts of pipes and stands for the penguins to slide down or to move using their fronts called tobogganing (one of our new vocabulary words of the week) 

The children then had a go at drawing their own Super Duper Slide and added on their own penguins. Some of the children had a go at moving along the slide like a penguin to develop their gross motor skills. 

National Penguin Day, by Mrs Burgess

On Monday it was National Penguin Day. The children have been learning lots of facts about penguins including; how penguins move, where penguins live (using our class globes and Google Maps), the cycle of a penguin and how many different species of penguins there are. The children have taken parts in lots of different activities in the continuous provision throughout the week such as observational drawings of penguins, played feed the penguin subitising game, penguin bingo and created finger printed penguins. They have also been exploring moving like a penguin whilst learning new vocabulary such as 'tobogganing' and 'waddling'

In Drawing Club this week the children have been looking at the book Penguin by Polly Dunbar. The children have been trying to create a special hiding place for the penguin and Ben to keep them safe from the lion. 

 

Recipe for a friend, by Mrs Burgess

In PSED this week the children in Beesley Class have been exploring the qualities that make a good friend. Ths children decided that a good friend is-loyal, patient, respectful, trusting and forgiving. The children had a go at showing these qualities whilst working in the continuous provision.
