The children really enjoyed taking part in the science live lesson delivered by Delivering Experts. They experimented with a vinegar solution and bicarbonate of soda to see how much foam was made.

Mary class have been learning how to plan and deliver their own prayer and liturgy to the class. They are finding their own scripture from the bible as well as setting up the worship area with what they feel is most important.
Roald Dahl Day, by Miss Palacio

Mary class enjoyed looking at the story of Matilda to celebrate Roald Dahl day. They enjoyed (a little too much) shouting Matilda influenced insults at one another (and in particular at the teachers), this enabled them to feel a snippet of how Matilda would have felt. We then discussed what a good role model looks like and the children drew and labelled their own Miss Honey inspired role models.

Mary class are loving being able to enjoy our new reading area. They are choosing their own library books from our school library to go into our reading area and are even writing book reviews to share with their peers.

Little Zoo to You, by Mrs Murrell

Children in Year 1 and 2 had a fantastic day dressing up as animals linked to our Science topic 'All About Animals'. In the afternoon we had a workshop form 'Little Zoo to You' in which we were able to get hands on with a variety of creatures including a giant snail, snake, milliepede, frog and a guinea pig. We learnt all about vertebrates, invetebrates and exoskeletons. We also found out about cold-blooded and warm-blooded animals and the different animal groups.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue visit EYFS, by Mrs Burgess

The children in Barlow and Beesley class had a special visit from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service this afternoon. The children enjoyed listening to the sirens and looking inside the fire engine. The firefighters even let us have a go at sitting in the fire engine! Just before the fire fighters left they showed the children how they use the hoses to put out fires. We had lots of fun and it was nice to see our real life superheroes in action!

The children worked in partners to invent their own product that cannot be found in any shops. They linked it to their explanation topic in English to explain to the members of the Dragon's Den how the inventions work and to convince them to invest in their product.

Firefighters at the ready in Beesley Class!, by Mrs Burgess

What an exciting morning in Beesley Class! When the children arrived at school this morning the children noticed the large red box. We opened the box and had a look inside. It was from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service ahead of their visit on Wednesday 25th September. The children had lots of fun exploring what resources were in the box and are looking forward to using them before our visit.
The children explored mark-making fires to place around in our outdoor area and have been role-playing taking on the role of being a firefighter to extinguish them. We are looking forward to our visit from Lancashire Fire and Rescue service on Wednesday.

To celebrate Roald Dahl Day the children in Beesley Class listened to the story of 'The Enormous Crocodile' and took part in a range of different activities within the continuous provision. These included- counting the teeth in the crocodile's mouth and matching the correct numeral, chalking/mark-making different sized crocodiles on the floor in our outdoor area, taking turns to play the crocodile tooth game in the fine motor area, role-playing the story in the story-telling area and using scissors to cut teeth out to stick onto the crocodile in the creative area. The children also created their own 'Wanted' posters to display around the environment to warn others about 'The Enormous Crocodile'.
