In guided reading one group of children have been reading a playscript and practising reading with tone and intonation ready to perform to the class. They all did exceptionally well!
Baptism discussion in church, by Miss Palacio

Mary class had our class mass this morning followed by a discussion with Father Mark about Baptism. The children enjoyed listening to Fr Mark go through each stage of Baptism, they looked at the different oils used, the Easter candle in which the Baptismal candle is lit from and the font where the holy water is poured onto the babies head.
Bonfire Night, by Mrs Burgess

The children have been learning all about Bonfire Night. Firstly we explored watching fireworks and described the noises that we can hear and what we could see. The children then explored a range of different mark making to represent fireworks.
We have also been talking about how to stay safe on Bonfire Night.
Father Mark visits Beesley Class, by Mrs Burgess

The children in Beesley Class enjoyed a visit from our Parish Priest, Father Mark this afternoon. Father Mark brought his guitar with him and taught the children some new songs. The children in Beesley Class shared their song which they have been learning in Collective Worship 'I can pray'.
Diwali, by Mrs Burgess

The children in Beesley Class have been learning about the festival of Diwali. The children explored how families celebrate the festival of Diwali.
In 'Drawing Club' the children have been using the book The Very Best Diwali and the story of Rama and Sita. The children then used the puppets to retell the story of Rama and Sita. Outside the children have been been exploring mark making using chalk to create their own Rangoli Patterns.
This afternoon the children followed the instructions to make salt dough to make their own Diva Lamps. As the children made the dough they explored the different consistencies of the dough and what happened when we poured too much water into the mixture. Once the dough was ready the children explored different techniques to shape the dough including rolling it into a ball and flattening it with their hands. Once the Diva Lamps have dried the children will be painting and decorating them.

Mary class have been interviewing characters to find out how they felt at different parts of the story - we found out that the Hare felt over confident and therfore lost the race!

Autumn Walk, by Mrs Burgess

The children in Beesley Class have been exploring the seasonal changes of Autumn. The children went on an Autumn walk around the school environment to look for signs of Autumn. Before we went on our walk we had to get ready by putting our coats on. We then explored around and found lots of leaves on the ground, some acorns and some berries on bushes near Forest School. We had a photograph infront of our class tree (something which we will be doing across all the seasons to look closely at the changes).
After our Autumn walk the children used some of the Autumn treasures we collected to make some Autumnal Artwork including; leaf printing, leaf rubbing and transient art. We had lots of fun!

The children have been learning about baptism and making promises, they took it in turns to interview each other in role of a parent and a parishioner. Children as parents answered questions such as; why do you want your child to be baptised? How will you show your faith to your children? Do you come to church regularly? What is the most important part of baptism to you?

The children in Marsden and Mary classes shared their recent English work with each other. They enjoyed listening to children from a different class and sharing their work with them too.

Today, the children investigated which substance would help clean dirty coins. They tested the PH of each substance beforehand, to see if there was a link between 'acids' and 'alkalines' and how efficient they were at cleaning the coins!

Judaism Week, by Mrs Burgess

The week the children have been learning about the religion of Judaism. The children followed the instructions to make Challah bread and played the game of Dreidel. The home corner was enhanced to celebrate Hanukkah.
At the end of the day the children tried the Challah bread.

Wonderful worms!, by Mrs Burgess

This week in 'Drawing Club' we have been looking at the story 'Superworm'. This has inspired us to explore worms around our school environment and some children wanted to look after some worms in our classroom. After much discussion about where is best to look after worms- we decided to create our own wormery as a class. The children explored the Forest School area and used a range of different tools to dig and find some worms for our wormey. We currently have 10 worms in our wormery.
Marvellous Marks in EYFS, by Mrs Burgess

As part of Expressive Arts and Design the children have been exploring making marks using a range of different media. At first the children explored making marks with wax crayons, then felt tips and today they have explored with chalk. The children talked about creating different patterns using the new vocabulary curved, line, long,short, squiggly, straight and zig-zag.

In 'Understand the World' we have been looking at and discussing many different occupations. The children were asked what occupation would they would like to have when they grow up? A few children in the class have been inspired by the recent visit from Lancashire Fire and Rescue.
Cleaning coins, by Miss Palacio

The children in Mary class have been making enquries into which substance would be the most effective at cleaning a dirty coin. They made sure to carry out a fair test by keeping the amount of solution the same and testing for the same amount of time. They even tested each solution againt the pH scale to see the acidity of each substance. After their experiment they did an extra test, adding some bicarbonate of soda to each solution to see if that cleaned the coins any better. They liked when the soda reacted with some of the solutions and began to bubble and foam.

Mary class have enjoyed writing their own version of The Tin Forest in their folktale unit. After they had finished their version written completely independently they enjoyed sharing it with their peers.

The children enjoyed designing and making their own solar ovens in science, they experimented with different materials and tested which one was best to melt chocolate.
Designing a stained glass window for a Synagogue, by Ms Patel

The children designed stained glass windows for a synagogue as part of their R.E topic on Judaism. They remembered that Jewish people believe there should be no statues or images of people's faces in their holy places and the stained glass windows in the synagogue contain images and symbols important to the Jewish faith.

The children tested a variety of materials (salt, coffee, jam, butter, wax) to see if they dissolved in the solvent (water).
